Privacy policy
Last updated 5 November 2026
This policy explains what personal information North Wales Photography collects through this website, why, and what your rights are.
Who we are
This website (northwales.photography) is run by North Wales Photography. We decide how and why your personal information is used, which makes us the "data controller" under UK data protection law.
Questions about this policy or your information? Contact us: email bignick89@outlook.com.
What we collect
We only collect what we need. Depending on how you use the website, that's:
- When you use our contact form: your name, email address, phone number (if you give it), your message and which page you sent it from.
- Visitor numbers: we count visits to this website, which pages are viewed, the website that sent you here and whether you're on a phone or computer. This is done without cookies and without storing your IP address; each visitor is only counted once a day using a code that can't be traced back to you.
- Technical information: like every website, our server sees your IP address and browser type when pages load. Server logs are kept for a short time to keep the website secure and working, then deleted.
Why we use it, and our legal basis
Data protection law says we need a reason (a "lawful basis") for each use:
| What we use it for | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Answering your message | Legitimate interests: replying to people who contact us. If you're asking about our services, also steps before a contract. |
| Understanding how the website is used | Legitimate interests: improving the website. No personal data is kept. |
| Keeping the website secure and working | Legitimate interests: running a safe, reliable website. |
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only with the companies that help us run things, and only what they need:
- Digital Startup (digitalstartup.uk), the web agency that builds, hosts and looks after this website for us. They only use your information to run the website.
- Our hosting: the website's servers and encrypted backups are in the UK and the EU.
- Our email delivery provider (Resend), which sends us notifications of new messages and sends our emails to you.
- Google, which provides the fonts used on this website (Google Fonts). Loading them sends your IP address to Google. No cookies are set.
- Anyone we're legally required to share it with, for example HMRC or the police with a valid request.
Information sent outside the UK
Some of these companies are based outside the UK, for example in the EU or the USA. When information is sent abroad, we make sure it's protected to UK standards, for example by the country having "adequacy" status, the UK-US data bridge, or the UK's approved contract terms.
How long we keep it
| Information | How long |
|---|---|
| Messages from the contact form | Deleted automatically after 2 years, unless they become part of work we do for you. |
| Visitor numbers | Only as daily totals, which don't identify anyone. |
| Server logs | A few weeks at most. |
Keeping it safe
The website only works over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Information is stored on secured servers, backups are encrypted, and only people who need it can see it.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that's wrong
- ask us to delete it
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use it
- ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on it (for example cookies)
To use any of these rights, contact us: email bignick89@outlook.com. It's free, and we'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page if anything changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
